"Martial artist, Keith Pascal, writes practical how-tos with a sense of humor ..."

Wrist Locks, plus

Even though I took Judo classes, then Tae Kwon Do, and after that, Shotokan Karate, my real martial arts education began with Steve Golden, in 1980.

The classes were always rigorous, and extremely practical. We worked hard, even though there was always a current of good-natured humor running through the class. Fun and informative, skill-building times. (I still manage to see Steve a few times a year, to check in.)

By practical, I mean efficient martial arts -- no wasted motions. This brand of self-defense is always direct. No wonder; Steve earned certification and black-belt status directly from Bruce Lee (founder of Jeet Kune Do) and Ed Parker (founder of Kenpo).

Now, as a martial-arts writer, I try to make sure my writing emphasizes the practical side of the martial arts.

And yes, there is always a little "attempt" at humor, here and there.

Q: Where can I read your martial arts information?

I write several ezines (Free online newsletters). I don't recommend that you sign up for all of them -- just what really interests you:

Martial Arts Mastery: A Tell-All of Tips, Tactics and Techniques -- an ezine with 3-4 articles, delivered on Tuesdays.

PunchHarder.com -- This list focuses on the hard hitting side of the martial arts. There is some overlap with the Advantage Martial Arts list, but this list is definitely more hard-hitting. And fast, too.

AdvantageMartialArts.com -- This is an ezine that focuses on all aspects of self defense, not just hitting. Everything from wrist locks to hand-to-hand combat is covered. Great for beginners and intermediate martial artists.

Still Absorbing: Bruce Lee and JKD -- Occasional, single articles focusing on the teachings of Bruce Lee. Read this ezine, if you'd like a JKD emphasis.

You'll also find oodles of articles by me (Keith Pascal) all over the Internet. Try www.KerwinBenson.com and maybe EzineArticles.com ... There are lots of other sites with my articles, but those should get you started.

For ebooks and or books of mine, try KerwinBenson.com. For books and CD-ROMS go to Amazon.com

Q: What style do you teach and write about?

I try not to make my writing style specific. I either incorporate many styles or stay non-specific when teaching "the good stuff." For example, in Wrist Locks, you'll find joint locks from Ju Jitsu, Aikido, Chin Na, Kali, JKD, and so on. There are even a few locks that I invented -- unique to the book.

Of course, when pointing out weaknesses, I try to pick on all styles equally.

If you are asking what I am belted in, I have teacher certification in Twin Dragon Gung Fu and JKD (Jeet Kune Do).

I often draw examples from JKD, Wing Chun, The Filipino arts, and some variations of the classic styles.

Rather than say that I write about a specific style, I write about different topics -- Knife Fighting How tos, Punching Faster and Harder, Getting Motivated in Martial Arts, and more.
